A Bit About Dr. Gillgrass

Dr. Amy Gillgrass is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine, and belongs to the McMaster Immunology Research Centre (MIRC) as well as the Michael G. Degroote Institute for Infectious Disease Research (IIIDR). Dr. Gillgrass obtained her MSc under the supervision of Dr. W.J. Muller before joining Dr. Charu Kaushic's lab as a research assistant, after which she obtained her PhD under the supervision of Dr. Ali Ashkar. In her academic career thus far, she has received several prestigious accolades including the NSERC-Canada Postgraduate Scholarship A, the Frederick Banting & Charles Best CGS-D Award (CIHR), and the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation Fellowship at both the Doctoral and Post-Doctoral levels. Dr. Gillgrass worked for a Biotech company as a Scientist working on research and development projects involving oncolytic viral immunotherapy for cancer.

Dr. Gillgrass brings a diverse background in infection, immunity, mouse models, and cancer research as well as experiences in both academia and industry. Her scientific interests are focused on the HIV/TB co-infection and developing humanized mice models to evaluate infectious disease pathogenesis as well as to test therapeutics for a wide variety of diseases.

Outside the lab, Dr. Gillgrass enjoys many hobbies including running, reading, spending time with her kids, and hiking!
